WikiWiki

WikiWiki (pronounced "wee-kee-wee-kee") is a term derived from the Hawaiian word "wiki", which means "quick". It is used to describe a type of website that allows collaborative editing of its content and structure by its users.

Etymology

The term "WikiWiki" is a reduplication of the Hawaiian word "wiki", which means "quick". The first wiki software, WikiWikiWeb, was developed by Ward Cunningham in 1995. He chose the name "WikiWikiWeb" because he remembered a Honolulu International Airport counter employee telling him to take the "Wiki Wiki Shuttle" bus that runs between the airport's terminals. Impressed by the speed of the service, he decided to use the term to describe his new invention.
