1-800 Contacts was founded in 1995 by two entrepreneurs, Jonathan Coon and John Nichols. The company started as a mail-order business and later expanded to online sales. In 2006, 1-800 Contacts was listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange. The company was later acquired by WellPoint in 2012, and then by AEA Investors in 2016.
