Accident

Accident (/ˈæksɪdənt/) is an unexpected and undesirable event, a mishap unforeseen and without apparent cause. Its etymology is derived from the Latin word "accidere" which means "fall upon, befall, happen, chance."

Definition

An accident is an unplanned event that sometimes has convenient or undesirable effects, or that produces casualties or damage. Accidents can occur in any environment, including the workplace, home, roadways, and more. They can result in injury, property damage, and sometimes, loss of life.

Types of Accidents

There are several types of accidents, including but not limited to:

Prevention

Accidents can often be prevented through safety measures, risk assessments, and proper training. For example, seat belts and airbags in cars can prevent or lessen injuries in a road traffic accident. Similarly, using safety equipment and following safety guidelines can prevent workplace accidents.
