Akilah Weber
American physician and politician
Akilah Faizah Weber is an American physician and politician serving as a member of the California State Assembly. She represents the 79th Assembly District, which includes parts of San Diego County. Weber is a member of the Democratic Party.
Early life and education
Akilah Weber was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She is the daughter of Shirley Weber, a prominent politician and academic. Akilah Weber attended University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in biology. She then pursued her medical degree at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.
Medical career
After completing her medical degree, Weber specialized in obstetrics and gynecology. She completed her residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Following her residency, she practiced as an obstetrician-gynecologist in San Diego, where she focused on women's health and reproductive rights.
Political career
Weber's political career began when she was elected to the La Mesa City Council in 2018. During her tenure, she focused on issues such as public safety, community health, and environmental sustainability. In 2021, she was elected to the California State Assembly in a special election, succeeding her mother, Shirley Weber, who had been appointed as the California Secretary of State.
In the Assembly, Weber has been an advocate for healthcare reform, education, and social justice. She has worked on legislation to improve access to healthcare services, particularly for underserved communities, and has been a vocal supporter of women's rights and reproductive health.
Personal life
Akilah Weber is married and has two children. She is actively involved in her community and participates in various initiatives aimed at improving public health and education.
