Ali Khademhosseini

Ali Khademhosseini is a prominent Iranian-Canadian bioengineer and scientist known for his significant contributions to the fields of tissue engineering, biomaterials, and regenerative medicine. He is a Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and the Director of the Center for Minimally Invasive Therapeutics (C-MIT).

Early Life and Education

Ali Khademhosseini was born in Tehran, Iran. He moved to Canada at a young age and pursued his higher education there. He received his B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toronto. He then went on to earn his Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) under the supervision of Robert Langer.

Career

After completing his Ph.D., Khademhosseini joined the faculty at Harvard Medical School and the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology. He later moved to UCLA, where he has continued his groundbreaking research.

Research

Khademhosseini's research focuses on developing innovative biomaterials and microfabrication techniques for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. His work has led to advancements in the creation of hydrogels, microscale technologies, and organ-on-a-chip systems. These technologies have potential applications in drug delivery, disease modeling, and the development of artificial organs.

Khademhosseini has authored over 500 peer-reviewed articles and holds numerous patents in the field of bioengineering. His work is highly cited, and he is considered one of the leading researchers in his field.
