Alicia Silverstone
Alicia Silverstone (born October 4, 1976) is an American actress, producer, and activist. She made her film debut in The Crush, earning the 1994 MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Performance. She gained further prominence as a teen idol when she appeared in the music video for Aerosmith's "Cryin'" and starred as Cher Horowitz in the 1995 hit film Clueless.
Early Life
Alicia Silverstone was born in San Francisco, California, to Deirdre Radford, a Scottish former Pan Am flight attendant, and Monty Silverstone, an English real estate agent. She was raised in a Jewish household and attended San Mateo High School.
Career
Early Work
Silverstone began her career as a child model and appeared in television commercials. Her first credited acting role was in the television series The Wonder Years in 1992.
Breakthrough and Success
Silverstone's breakthrough came with her role in The Crush, which led to her being cast in several Aerosmith music videos, including "Cryin'", "Amazing", and "Crazy". Her performance in Clueless solidified her status as a leading actress in Hollywood.
Later Work
After Clueless, Silverstone starred in several films, including Batman & Robin (1997) as Batgirl, Blast from the Past (1999), and Excess Baggage (1997), which she also produced. She has also appeared in various television series, including Miss Match and The Baby-Sitters Club.
Activism
Silverstone is a noted vegan and animal rights activist. She has written a book on vegan nutrition titled The Kind Diet and runs a website called The Kind Life. She is also involved with several animal rights organizations, including PETA.
Personal Life
Silverstone married Christopher Jarecki, a musician, in 2005. They have one son, Bear Blu Jarecki, born in 2011. The couple separated in 2018.
