Azficel-T

From WikiMD's medical encyclopedia

Azficel-T is a type of autologous cell therapy that is used in the treatment of vocal cord scarring and wrinkles. It is produced by Fibrocell Science, and is marketed under the brand name LAVIV.

Overview

Azficel-T is created by taking a small sample of the patient's own skin cells, which are then multiplied in a laboratory setting. The resulting cells are injected back into the patient's body, where they can help to repair damaged tissue. This process is known as autologous cell therapy, as the cells used are the patient's own.

Uses

Azficel-T is primarily used in the treatment of vocal cord scarring and wrinkles. It has been shown to be effective in improving the appearance of moderate to severe wrinkles, particularly those around the mouth and nose. In addition, it has been used to treat vocal cord scarring, which can cause hoarseness and other voice problems.

Side Effects

As with any medical treatment, Azficel-T can have side effects. These can include redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection site. In rare cases, patients may experience an allergic reaction to the treatment.
