Bachelor of Pharmacy

Bachelor of Pharmacy (pronounced: /ˈbætʃələr ɒv fɑːrˈmæsɪ/) is an undergraduate academic degree in the field of Pharmacy. The degree is the basic prerequisite for registration to practice as a pharmacist in many countries and it's about understanding the properties and impacts of medicines and developing the skills required to counsel patients about their use.

Etymology

The term "Bachelor" in Bachelor of Pharmacy is derived from the Medieval Latin word "baccalaureus" which refers to a person who has achieved the lowest degree in a university, or a knight. The term "Pharmacy" is derived from the Greek word "pharmakia" which means "use of drugs, medicines, potions, or spells; poisoning, witchcraft".
