Ballistic Training (pronunciation: /bəˈlɪstɪk ˈtreɪnɪŋ/) is a form of strength training that involves throwing weights, and jumping with weights, in order to increase explosive strength. The term "ballistic" refers to the original military use of the term, which involved projectiles and firearms. In the context of exercise, it refers to the movement of the weights in a fast, explosive manner.

Etymology

The term "ballistic" comes from the Greek word "ballein", which means "to throw". The term "training" comes from the Old French "trainer", which means "to drag" or "to draw". In the context of exercise, "training" refers to the practice of improving physical fitness and athletic performance.
