Barceló (rum)
Barceló is a brand of rum produced in the Dominican Republic. The company was founded in 1929 by Julian Barceló, a Spanish immigrant who arrived in Santo Domingo with the aim of creating a business in the spirits industry. Today, Barceló is one of the most recognized and respected rum brands in the world, with a wide range of products that are exported to over 50 countries.
History
Julian Barceló, originally from Mallorca, Spain, founded Barceló & Co. in Santo Domingo in 1929. The company initially focused on the local market, but soon expanded its operations to include international exports. In the 1950s, Barceló introduced the first aged rum in the Dominican Republic, which quickly gained popularity for its unique flavor and quality.
In the 1980s, the company launched Barceló Imperial, a premium aged rum that has since become one of the brand's flagship products. Today, Barceló is part of the Ron Barceló SRL group, which continues to produce and distribute Barceló rum worldwide.
Production
Barceló rum is made from sugarcane molasses, which is fermented and then distilled in continuous stills. The distilled spirit is then aged in white oak barrels, which gives the rum its characteristic color and flavor. The aging process can last from two to ten years, depending on the specific product.
Barceló produces a variety of rum products, including white rum, gold rum, aged rum, and premium aged rum. Each product has its own unique flavor profile, ranging from light and smooth to rich and complex.
Products
Barceló offers a range of rum products, including:
- Barceló Blanco: A white rum that is smooth and light, ideal for mixing in cocktails.
- Barceló Añejo: An aged rum with a rich, complex flavor.
- Barceló Imperial: A premium aged rum that is considered one of the finest rums in the world.
- Barceló Gran Añejo: A blend of rums aged up to 10 years, offering a balance of sweetness and spice.
Recognition
Barceló has received numerous awards and accolades for its products. In particular, Barceló Imperial has been recognized as one of the finest rums in the world, receiving a Gold Medal at the International Rum Conference in 2012.
