Bencyclane

Bencyclane (pronounced ben-SY-klayn) is a vasodilator used in the treatment of claudication, a condition that causes pain and cramping in the lower limbs due to inadequate blood flow.

Etymology

The term "Bencyclane" is derived from its chemical structure, which includes a benzene ring (ben-) and a cyclohexane ring (-cycl-) along with an amine group (-ane).

Usage

Bencyclane is primarily used to treat Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) and claudication. It works by relaxing and widening blood vessels, thus improving blood flow to the limbs.

Side Effects

Like all medications, Bencyclane can cause side effects. Common side effects include dizziness, headache, and flushing. Severe side effects may include hypotension, tachycardia, and angina pectoris.
