British Society of Clinical Hypnosis
British Society of Clinical Hypnosis (BSCAH) is a professional organization in the United Kingdom that promotes the use of hypnosis in clinical practice. It was established in 1984 and has since been dedicated to advancing the understanding and application of hypnosis in healthcare.
History
The British Society of Clinical Hypnosis was founded in 1984 by a group of practitioners who saw the need for a professional body to oversee the practice of clinical hypnosis. The society has grown over the years and now has branches across the UK, each offering training and support to its members.
Purpose and Function
The primary purpose of the BSCAH is to promote the safe and responsible use of hypnosis in medicine, dentistry, and psychology. The society provides training and accreditation for professionals in the field, ensuring that they meet high standards of competence and ethical practice.
The BSCAH also serves as a resource for the public, providing information about the benefits and risks of hypnosis, and offering a directory of accredited practitioners. In addition, the society conducts and supports research into the clinical applications of hypnosis.
Membership
Membership in the BSCAH is open to healthcare professionals who have completed an approved training course in clinical hypnosis. The society offers several levels of membership, from student to full member, depending on the individual's level of training and experience.
Training and Accreditation
The BSCAH provides comprehensive training in clinical hypnosis, covering both theory and practical skills. The society's training courses are accredited by the British Psychological Society and the Royal College of Nursing, among others.
Upon completion of the training, practitioners can apply for accreditation by the BSCAH. Accredited members are required to adhere to the society's code of ethics and to engage in ongoing professional development.
Research and Publications
The BSCAH supports research into the clinical applications of hypnosis and publishes a peer-reviewed journal, the Journal of the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis. The society also publishes a newsletter and maintains a library of resources for its members.
