Brother Ali
Brother Ali (born Jason Douglas Newman on July 30, 1977) is an American rapper, activist, and member of the Rhymesayers Entertainment collective. Known for his socially conscious lyrics and unique voice, Brother Ali has been a prominent figure in the hip hop community since the early 2000s.
Early Life
Brother Ali was born in Madison, Wisconsin, and spent much of his childhood moving around the Midwestern United States. He was born with albinism, a condition that affects the production of melanin and results in a lack of pigment in the skin, hair, and eyes. This condition has influenced his music and personal identity.
Career
Brother Ali began his career in the late 1990s, performing at local venues and releasing independent projects. His breakthrough came with the release of his debut album, Rites of Passage, in 2000.
