Brussels, the capital city of Belgium, is known for its rich history, diverse culture, and significant role in international politics. It is also the administrative center of the European Union, making it a hub for international diplomacy and decision-making.

Etymology

The name "Brussels" comes from the Old Dutch Bruocsella, Brucsella or Broekzele, which means "marsh (broek) home (zele / sella)" or "home in the marsh". The city's name is a reflection of its early environment, which was characterized by marshy landscapes.
