Bundesliga
The Bundesliga is a professional association football league in Germany and is the top tier of the German football league system. The league was founded in 1963 and is composed of 18 teams. The Bundesliga operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the 2. Bundesliga.
History
The Bundesliga was established in 1963 to create a unified national league in Germany. Prior to its formation, German football was played in regional leagues. The league's creation was part of a broader effort to professionalize football in Germany and improve the national team's performance.
Competition Format
The Bundesliga season runs from August to May, with each team playing 34 matches (17 home and 17 away). Teams receive three points for a win, one point for a draw, and no points for a loss. The team with the most points at the end of the season is crowned the champion.
Promotion and Relegation
The bottom two teams are automatically relegated to the 2. Bundesliga, while the top two teams from the 2. Bundesliga are promoted. The 16th-placed team in the Bundesliga enters a two-legged playoff against the third-placed team in the 2. Bundesliga to determine which team will play in the Bundesliga the following season.
