CNN (Cable News Network) is a multinational news-based pay television channel headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. It was founded in 1980 by Ted Turner and Reese Schonfeld as a 24-hour cable news channel. CNN was the first television channel to provide 24-hour news coverage and was the first all-news television channel in the United States.

History

CNN was launched on June 1, 1980, by American media proprietor Ted Turner and Reese Schonfeld as a 24-hour cable news channel. The network's first broadcast was anchored by David Walker and Lois Hart.

1980s

In its early years, CNN gained prominence with its coverage of the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster in 1986 and the Gulf War in 1991, where it was the only news outlet with live coverage from inside Iraq.

1990s

During the 1990s, CNN expanded its reach globally with the launch of CNN International, providing news coverage to audiences around the world. The network also launched several new programs and segments, including Larry King Live, which became one of its most popular shows.

2000s
