Calhoun County is a county located in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 5,573. The county seat is Morgan.
History
Calhoun County was created on February 20, 1854, from parts of Baker and Early counties. It was named after John C. Calhoun, a prominent U.S. statesman and Vice President.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 284 square miles (740 km²), of which 280 square miles (730 km²) is land and 4.0 square miles (10 km²) (1.4%) is water.

Demographics
As of the 2020 United States census, there were 5,573 people, 2,123 households, and 1,345 families residing in the county. The population density was 20 people per square mile (7.7/km²).
Economy
The economy of Calhoun County is primarily based on agriculture, with peanuts, cotton, and corn being the main crops. The county also has a small manufacturing sector.
Education
Calhoun County is served by the Calhoun County School District, which includes Calhoun County Elementary School and Calhoun County Middle/High School.

- Walter F. George, a U.S. Senator from Georgia, was born in Preston, Georgia, but spent much of his life in Calhoun County.
