Cars 2
Cars 2
Cars 2 is a 2011 American computer-animated action-adventure comedy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. It is the sequel to the 2006 film Cars and the second film in the Cars franchise. The film was directed by John Lasseter, co-directed by Brad Lewis, and produced by Denise Ream.
The story follows race car Lightning McQueen and his friend Mater as they head overseas to compete in the World Grand Prix, but Mater becomes sidetracked with international espionage. The film features the voices of Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy, Michael Caine, Emily Mortimer, and John Turturro.
Plot
The film begins with British spy Finn McMissile infiltrating an oil rig owned by criminal mastermind Professor Zündapp. Finn discovers that Professor Zündapp and his cohorts are planning to sabotage the World Grand Prix, a race designed to promote a new alternative fuel called Allinol.
Meanwhile, in Radiator Springs, Lightning McQueen returns home to enjoy some time off with his best friend Mater. However, McQueen is soon challenged by Italian race car Francesco Bernoulli to compete in the World Grand Prix. McQueen accepts the challenge and takes Mater along for the ride.
During the first race in Tokyo, Mater accidentally gets involved in Finn McMissile's mission, leading to a series of misunderstandings and adventures across the globe, including stops in Paris, London, and Porto Corsa. Mater eventually helps uncover the plot to sabotage the race and saves the day.

Production
Cars 2 was announced in 2008, following the success of the original Cars film. John Lasseter returned to direct the sequel, with Brad Lewis serving as co-director. The filmmakers traveled to various locations around the world to gather inspiration for the film's settings, including Tokyo, Paris, and London. The film's score was composed by Michael Giacchino, who incorporated international musical styles to reflect the film's global setting.
Reception
Upon its release, Cars 2 received mixed reviews from critics. While praised for its animation and action sequences, some critics felt that the film's plot was less engaging than its predecessor. However, the film was a commercial success, grossing over $560 million worldwide.
