Chocolate biscuit

From WikiMD's medical encyclopedia

Chocolate biscuit is a type of biscuit that is flavored with chocolate. They are a popular snack worldwide and come in a variety of forms, including sandwich biscuits, drop biscuits, and coated biscuits.

History

The first known chocolate biscuit was created in the early 19th century, when bakers began adding cocoa powder to traditional biscuit recipes. This innovation was made possible by the development of the cocoa press, which allowed for the production of cocoa powder. The popularity of chocolate biscuits grew throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, with many different varieties being developed.

Types

There are many different types of chocolate biscuits, including:

  • Sandwich biscuits: These consist of a layer of chocolate or chocolate-flavored cream between two biscuits. Examples include the Oreo and the Bourbon biscuit.
  • Drop biscuits: These are made by dropping a mixture of flour, sugar, and chocolate onto a baking sheet. Examples include chocolate chip cookies.
  • Coated biscuits: These are biscuits that have been coated in chocolate. Examples include Tim Tams and Penguins.

Production

The production of chocolate biscuits involves several steps. First, the biscuit dough is made by combining flour, sugar, and other ingredients. If the biscuit is to be a drop biscuit, chocolate chips or chunks are added at this stage. The dough is then shaped into biscuits and baked.

If the biscuit is a sandwich biscuit, a layer of chocolate or chocolate-flavored cream is added after the biscuits have cooled. If the biscuit is to be coated in chocolate, it is dipped in melted chocolate after baking.
