Clitocybe dealbata

Clitocybe dealbata is a species of mushroom in the family Tricholomataceae. It is commonly known as the Ivory Funnel. This mushroom is native to Europe and North America, and it is often found growing in grassy areas such as lawns and pastures.

Description

The Clitocybe dealbata has a cap that is 2-6 cm in diameter. The cap is initially convex, but it becomes flat or slightly depressed with age. The color of the cap is typically white or cream, and it has a smooth surface. The gills of the Clitocybe dealbata are white and they are decurrent, meaning they extend down the stem. The stem is also white, and it is typically 2-5 cm long and 0.5-1 cm thick.

Habitat and distribution

The Clitocybe dealbata is widely distributed in Europe and North America. It is commonly found in grassy areas such as lawns and pastures. This mushroom is saprobic, meaning it obtains its nutrients from decaying organic matter. It typically fruits in the fall.

Toxicity

The Clitocybe dealbata is known to be toxic. It contains the toxin muscarine, which can cause symptoms such as salivation, sweating, and blurred vision if ingested. Therefore, it is not recommended for consumption.
