David D. Burns is an American psychiatrist and adjunct professor emeritus in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He is best known for his work in the development of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), particularly in the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders.
Early Life and Education
David D. Burns was born in 1942. He completed his undergraduate studies at Amherst College and went on to earn his medical degree from the Stanford University School of Medicine. During his residency at the University of Pennsylvania, he worked with Dr. Aaron T. Beck, the founder of cognitive therapy.
