Davidson College is a private liberal arts college located in Davidson, North Carolina, United States. Founded in 1837 by the Presbyterian Church, Davidson College has a long-standing tradition of academic excellence and a commitment to developing leadership and service among its students.
History
Davidson College was established in 1837 by the Concord Presbytery and named after Revolutionary War hero William Lee Davidson, who died at the Battle of Cowan's Ford. The college was originally intended to educate young men for the ministry, but it has since evolved into a coeducational institution offering a wide range of academic programs.
Throughout its history, Davidson College has maintained a close relationship with the Presbyterian Church, although it operates independently of the church today. The college's motto, "Alenda Lux Ubi Orta Libertas," translates to "Let Learning Be Cherished Where Liberty Has Arisen."

Davidson College is a member of the NCAA Division I and competes in the Atlantic 10 Conference. The college's athletic teams are known as the Wildcats. Davidson has a strong tradition in basketball, with the men's team achieving national recognition under the leadership of coach Bob McKillop and former player Stephen Curry.
