Demetria Devonne Lovato (born August 20, 1992) is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. Lovato gained prominence for their role as Mitchie Torres in the Disney Channel musical television film Camp Rock (2008) and its sequel Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam (2010). They have since established themselves as a successful recording artist and advocate for mental health awareness.

Early Life

Demi Lovato was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and raised in Dallas, Texas. They began their acting career at a young age, appearing on the children's television series Barney & Friends from 2002 to 2004. Lovato's mother, Dianna De La Garza, was a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader and country music recording artist, which influenced Lovato's early interest in music and performance.

Acting

Lovato's breakthrough role came in 2008 when they starred in Camp Rock alongside the Jonas Brothers. The film's success led to a recording contract with Hollywood Records, and Lovato released their debut album, Don't Forget, in 2008. They continued to act in Disney Channel projects, including the series Sonny with a Chance (2009–2011).

Music

Lovato's music career has been marked by a series of successful albums and singles. Their debut album, Don't Forget, was followed by Here We Go Again (2009), which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Subsequent albums include Unbroken (2011), Demi (2013), Confident (2015), Tell Me You Love Me (2017), and Dancing with the Devil... the Art of Starting Over (2021).

Lovato is known for their powerful vocal range and has received numerous awards and nominations, including an MTV Video Music Award, a Billboard Music Award, and several Teen Choice Awards.

Personal Life

Lovato has been open about their struggles with mental health, substance abuse, and eating disorders. They have used their platform to advocate for mental health awareness and have been involved in various charitable organizations. In 2020, Lovato announced their engagement to actor Max Ehrich, but the engagement was called off later that year.

In 2021, Lovato came out as non-binary and announced they would be using they/them pronouns.

Advocacy

Lovato is a vocal advocate for mental health awareness and has worked with organizations such as Be Vocal: Speak Up for Mental Health and The Trevor Project. They have also been involved in campaigns to raise awareness about bullying, LGBTQ+ rights, and other social issues.
