Deuce McAllister
Deuce McAllister
Dulymus Jenod "Deuce" McAllister (born December 27, 1978) is a former American football running back who played in the National Football League (NFL) for the New Orleans Saints. He was drafted by the Saints in the first round of the 2001 NFL Draft and played his entire career with the team. McAllister is the all-time leading rusher for the Saints.
Early Life and College Career
McAllister was born in Ludlow, Mississippi. He attended Morton High School where he excelled in football, basketball, and track. He then attended the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), where he played college football for the Rebels. During his college career, McAllister set several school records, including career rushing yards and touchdowns.
Professional Career
New Orleans Saints
McAllister was selected by the New Orleans Saints with the 23rd overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft. He quickly became a key player for the team, known for his powerful running style and ability to break tackles. McAllister had his best seasons in 2002 and 2003, when he rushed for over 1,300 yards each year and was selected to the Pro Bowl.
Injuries, however, plagued McAllister's career. He suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee in 2005 and again in 2007, which significantly impacted his playing time and performance. Despite these setbacks, McAllister remained a fan favorite and a respected leader in the locker room.
McAllister was released by the Saints in 2009 but was re-signed briefly during the team's playoff run to the Super Bowl XLIV, although he did not play in the game. The Saints went on to win the Super Bowl, and McAllister was celebrated as part of the team's success.
Post-Football Career
After retiring from professional football, McAllister has been involved in various business ventures and charitable activities. He owns a car dealership in Mississippi and has been active in community service through his Catch 22 Foundation, which focuses on youth development and health initiatives.
Legacy
Deuce McAllister is remembered as one of the greatest players in New Orleans Saints history. He holds the franchise records for career rushing yards and rushing touchdowns. His contributions to the team and the community have left a lasting impact.
