Distance Education (pronunciation: /ˈdɪstəns ˌɛdʒʊˈkeɪʃən/) is a method of teaching in which the learner is physically separate from the teacher. It can be conducted in different ways, including online and through correspondence.

Etymology

The term "Distance Education" originated in the early 20th century in the United States and Europe. It was initially used to describe educational programs for students who were not physically present in a traditional educational setting such as a classroom.
