Encino is a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles, California, United States.

History

The area of Encino was originally part of the Rancho Los Encinos land grant, which was established in the early 19th century. The name "Encino" is derived from the Spanish word for "oak", a reference to the many oak trees in the area.

Geography

Encino is located in the central portion of the southern San Fernando Valley. It is flanked on the north by Reseda and the Sepulveda Basin, on the east by Sherman Oaks, on the southeast by Bel-Air, on the south by Brentwood and on the west by Tarzana.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, Encino had a population of approximately 44,581. The racial makeup of the neighborhood was predominantly White, with significant Hispanic and Asian populations.

Economy

Encino is home to many professionals, particularly those in the entertainment industry. It is also known for its high concentration of medical professionals and health care providers.

Education

Encino is served by the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). There are three public elementary schools in Encino, as well as one public middle school and one public high school. There are also several private schools in the area.

Notable people

Many notable people have lived in Encino, including musicians, actors, and athletes. Some of the most famous residents have included Michael Jackson, Tom Petty, and John Wayne.
