Epilepsia (journal)

Epilepsia (pronounced eh-puh-lep-see-uh) is a peer-reviewed medical journal that focuses on all aspects of epilepsy. The journal is published monthly by the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE).

Etymology

The term "Epilepsia" is derived from the Latin word "epilepsia", which itself is a transliteration of the Greek word "ἐπιληψία" (epilēpsía). This word is composed of "ἐπί" (epí, meaning "upon") and "λαμβάνειν" (lambánein, meaning "to seize"), thus conveying the idea of being seized upon by a sudden attack, which is characteristic of epilepsy.

Scope

Epilepsia covers a wide range of topics related to epilepsy, including clinical research, basic science research, neuroimaging, neuropsychology, and therapeutic trials. The journal also publishes articles on the pathophysiology and genetics of epilepsy, as well as reviews and guidelines from the ILAE.

Abstracting and indexing

Epilepsia is abstracted and indexed in PubMed, MEDLINE, Scopus, and the Science Citation Index. According to the Journal Citation Reports, the journal has a 2019 impact factor of 6.040.
