Etta D. Pisano (pronunciation: /ˈɛtə dɪ ˈpiːsənoʊ/) is a renowned American radiologist and medical researcher. She is best known for her significant contributions to the field of breast imaging and mammography.

Etymology

The name 'Etta' is of English origin and means 'estate ruler'. 'Pisano', on the other hand, is an Italian surname, which is derived from the city of Pisa in Italy.

Career

Pisano's career in the medical field has been marked by numerous achievements. She served as the Dean of the College of Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) from 2010 to 2014. Prior to this, she was the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine.

Pisano is also recognized for her work as the principal investigator of the Digital Mammographic Imaging Screening Trial (DMIST), a landmark study that compared digital and film mammography.
