Ewing Kauffman
Ewing Marion Kauffman (September 21, 1916 – August 1, 1993) was an American pharmaceutical entrepreneur, philanthropist, and Major League Baseball team owner. He is best known for founding the Kansas City Royals and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.
Early Life
Ewing Kauffman was born in Garden City, Missouri, and grew up in a rural setting. His early life was marked by a strong work ethic and a keen interest in business. Kauffman attended Central High School in Kansas City, Missouri.
Career
Kauffman began his career in the pharmaceutical industry, where he founded Marion Laboratories in 1950. The company started with a modest investment and grew into a major pharmaceutical company, eventually merging with Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals in 1989.
Kansas City Royals
In 1968, Kauffman was awarded a Major League Baseball franchise, which he named the Kansas City Royals. The team quickly became competitive, winning their first World Series in 1985. Kauffman's leadership and vision were instrumental in the team's success.
Philanthropy
