A Festival (pronounced: /ˈfɛstɪvəl/) is a day or period of celebration, often for religious reasons. The term is derived from the Latin word festivus, which means festive or joyous.

Etymology

The word Festival comes from the Middle English fest, which was adopted from the Latin word festivus. Festivus itself is derived from festus, meaning joyous or celebratory.
