Fluoxymesterone

Fluoxymesterone (pronounced as floo-ox-i-MES-te-rone) is a synthetic anabolic steroid that is used in the treatment of male hypogonadism and certain types of breast cancer in women.

Etymology

The term "Fluoxymesterone" is derived from its chemical structure. The prefix "Fluo-" refers to the presence of fluorine atoms in the molecule, "-oxy-" indicates the presence of oxygen, and "-mesterone" is a common suffix used in the nomenclature of steroids, indicating its relation to testosterone.

Usage

Fluoxymesterone is used medically to treat conditions related to low testosterone levels in males and certain types of breast cancer in females. It is also used by bodybuilders and athletes for its anabolic properties, although this is not a medically approved use.
