Garfield County is a county located in the southern part of the state of Utah, in the United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 5,083. The county seat and largest city is Panguitch. The county was named for James A. Garfield, the 20th President of the United States.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 5,208 square miles (13,490 km²), of which 5,175 square miles (13,400 km²) is land and 33 square miles (85 km²) (0.6%) is water. The county is characterized by its rugged terrain, including parts of the Colorado Plateau and the Great Basin.

As of the 2020 census, there were 5,083 people, 1,978 households, and 1,312 families residing in the county. The population density was 0.98 people per square mile (0.38/km²). The racial makeup of the county was predominantly White, with small percentages of other races.
