== Geography of Angola ==

Angola is a country located on the western coast of Southern Africa. It is bordered by Namibia to the south, the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the north, and Zambia to the east. To the west, it has a coastline along the Atlantic Ocean. The country covers an area of approximately 1,246,700 square kilometers, making it the seventh-largest country in Africa.

Topography

Angola's topography is diverse, featuring a variety of landscapes. The coastal plain is relatively narrow, extending inland for about 50 to 100 kilometers. Beyond the coastal plain, the land rises to a high plateau that covers most of the country. The highest point in Angola is Mount Moco, which reaches an elevation of 2,620 meters.

Climate

Angola has a tropical climate, with distinct wet and dry seasons. The coastal region experiences a more temperate climate due to the influence of the Benguela Current, which brings cooler temperatures. The interior regions have a more tropical climate, with higher temperatures and more significant seasonal variations in rainfall.

Rivers and Lakes

The country is traversed by several major rivers, including the Cuanza River, the Cunene River, and the Zambezi River. These rivers are crucial for irrigation, transportation, and hydroelectric power. Angola also has several lakes, the most notable being Lake Dilolo, the largest lake in the country.

Natural Resources

Angola is rich in natural resources, including oil, diamonds, gold, and iron ore. The country's economy is heavily dependent on its oil production, which accounts for a significant portion of its GDP and export earnings.

Flora and Fauna

The diverse landscapes of Angola support a wide range of flora and fauna. The country is home to several national parks and protected areas, such as Kissama National Park and Iona National Park. These parks are vital for the conservation of Angola's wildlife, including species such as elephants, lions, and various antelope species.

Environmental Issues

Angola faces several environmental challenges, including deforestation, soil erosion, and pollution from oil extraction. Efforts are being made to address these issues through various conservation and sustainable development initiatives.
