Global Marijuana March

The Global Marijuana March (pronunciation: /ˈɡloʊbəl məˈrɑːnə ˈmɑːrtʃ/), also known as the Worldwide Marijuana March, is an annual rally held at different locations around the world on the first Saturday in May. The event was first held in 1999, and since then it has continued to grow, with hundreds of cities in dozens of countries participating each year.

Etymology

The term "Global Marijuana March" is derived from the scope of the event (global), the subject matter (marijuana), and the form of protest (march). The word "marijuana" is of Mexican Spanish origin, while "march" comes from the Middle French "marcher", meaning "to march, walk".
