Good Humor
Good Humor is an American brand of ice cream novelties founded in Youngstown, Ohio in the early 1920s. The brand is known for its ice cream bars, which were among the first to be sold on a stick. Good Humor is now owned by Unilever, a multinational corporation.
History
Good Humor was founded by Harry Burt, a confectioner who created a chocolate coating that could be applied to ice cream. In 1920, Burt developed a process to manufacture ice cream bars with a wooden stick inserted for easy handling. He patented the idea and began selling the bars from trucks equipped with freezers, which became known as "Good Humor trucks."
The company expanded rapidly, and by the 1930s, Good Humor trucks were a common sight in many American cities. The brand became synonymous with the ice cream truck, and the jingle of the Good Humor truck became a familiar sound in neighborhoods across the country.
Products
Good Humor offers a variety of ice cream products, including:
Some of the most popular Good Humor products include the Strawberry Shortcake Bar, the Chocolate Éclair Bar, and the King Cone.
Cultural Impact
Good Humor has had a significant impact on American culture. The brand's ice cream trucks are an iconic symbol of summertime in the United States. The Good Humor Man, the friendly driver of the ice cream truck, has been a beloved figure for generations of children.
The brand has also been featured in various forms of media, including movies, television shows, and advertisements. The image of the Good Humor truck and its jingle have become ingrained in American pop culture.
Ownership
Good Humor was acquired by Unilever in 1961. Under Unilever's ownership, the brand has continued to thrive and expand its product line. Good Humor is now part of Unilever's Heartbrand portfolio, which includes other well-known ice cream brands such as Magnum and Breyers.
