Health Action International

Health Action International (HAI) is a global non-profit organization that works to increase access to essential medicines and improve their rational use through research excellence and evidence-based advocacy. Pronounced as /ˈhɛlθ ˈækʃən ɪntərˈnæʃənəl/.

Etymology

The term "Health Action International" is a combination of three words. "Health" is derived from the Old English word "hǣlth", which has the base meaning of "whole". "Action" comes from the Latin word "actio", meaning "a doing" and "International" is derived from the Latin "inter", meaning "between" and "natio", meaning "nation". The organization's name reflects its mission to act for health matters on an international scale.
