IPad Mini 2
iPad Mini 2
The iPad Mini 2, originally marketed as the iPad mini with Retina Display, is a tablet computer produced by Apple Inc. It was announced on October 22, 2013, and was released on November 12, 2013. The iPad Mini 2 features a reduced screen size of 7.9 inches and is the successor to the first generation iPad Mini. It was succeeded by the iPad Mini 3.
Specifications
The iPad Mini 2 is powered by the Apple A7 SoC, which includes a 64-bit A7 processor and the Apple M7 motion coprocessor. This marked a significant performance improvement over its predecessor. The device comes with 1GB of RAM and options for 16, 32, 64, or 128GB of internal storage.
One of the most notable upgrades from the first generation is the display. The iPad Mini 2 features a 7.9-inch Retina Display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels, offering a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch (PPI). This was a major selling point, as it brought the display quality on par with the larger iPad Air.
The tablet includes a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera capable of recording 1080p video and a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera suitable for FaceTime and selfies. It runs on iOS 7, which introduced a completely redesigned user interface and numerous new features and was later upgradeable to iOS 12, ensuring compatibility with many modern apps and features.
Design
The iPad Mini 2 shares a similar design with its predecessor, featuring a sleek aluminum enclosure and available in Space Gray or Silver. It measures 200 x 134.7 x 7.5 mm and weighs 331 grams for the Wi-Fi model and 341 grams for the Wi-Fi + Cellular model.
Reception
The iPad Mini 2 received critical acclaim upon its release, with praise particularly directed at its Retina Display and improved performance. However, some critics noted that it was slightly thicker and heavier than the original iPad Mini due to the inclusion of the Retina Display and a larger battery to maintain its 10-hour battery life.
Legacy
The iPad Mini 2 was discontinued on March 21, 2017, following the announcement of a 9.7-inch iPad, which effectively replaced the iPad Mini 2 in Apple's tablet lineup. Despite its discontinuation, the iPad Mini 2 remains popular among users looking for a compact tablet with a high-resolution display.
