Igor and Grichka Bogdanoff
French twin television presenters, producers, and scientific essayists
Igor Yourievitch Bogdanoff and Grichka Yourievitch Bogdanoff (29 August 1949 – 28 December 2021) were French twin television presenters, producers, and scientific essayists. They were best known for their work on the television series Temps X and Rayons X.
Early Life
Igor and Grichka Bogdanoff were born on 29 August 1949 in Saint-Lary, Gers, France. They were of Russian and Austrian descent. Their grandmother, Bertha Kolowrat-Krakowská, was a member of the Bohemian nobility.
Career
The Bogdanoff twins first gained fame in the late 1970s with their television show Temps X, which aired from 1979 to 1987. The show was one of the first to introduce the French public to science fiction and popular science. They later hosted Rayons X, another science-themed television program.
Academic Controversy
In the early 2000s, the Bogdanoff twins became involved in a controversy regarding their academic work. They published a series of papers in theoretical physics that were later criticized for their lack of scientific rigor. This controversy, often referred to as the Bogdanov affair, raised questions about the peer review process in academic publishing.
Personal Life
Igor and Grichka were known for their distinctive facial features, which they attributed to cosmetic surgery. They were also known for their eccentric personalities and their contributions to popular science.
Death
Grichka Bogdanoff passed away on 28 December 2021 in Paris, France. Igor Bogdanoff passed away shortly after, on 3 January 2022.
Legacy
Despite the controversies, the Bogdanoff twins left a lasting impact on French popular culture and science communication. Their television shows inspired a generation of viewers to take an interest in science fiction and popular science.
