Inserm

Inserm (pronounced: in-serm), officially known as the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research, is a public scientific and technological institute that specializes in medical research. It is the only public research institution in France entirely dedicated to human health and medical research.

Etymology

The term "Inserm" is an acronym derived from the French name of the institute, Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale.

History

Inserm was established in 1964 as a successor to the French National Institute of Health. It operates under the dual auspices of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Research.

Function

Inserm's primary function is to promote and conduct medical research with the aim of improving the health of the population. It also provides a platform for collaboration between researchers from different disciplines, thereby fostering innovation in medical research.
