Kemerovo tickborne viral fever
Kemerovo tickborne viral fever is a viral disease transmitted by ticks. It is named after the Kemerovo Oblast in Russia, where the disease was first identified. The disease is caused by the Kemerovo virus, a member of the Orbivirus genus in the Reoviridae family.
Epidemiology
Kemerovo tickborne viral fever is primarily found in the Siberian region of Russia, particularly in the Kemerovo Oblast. The disease is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected ticks, specifically the Ixodes persulcatus species. The virus can also be transmitted to humans through the consumption of raw milk from infected animals.
Symptoms
The symptoms of Kemerovo tickborne viral fever typically appear within one to two weeks after the tick bite. Symptoms include fever, headache, muscle pain, and a rash. In severe cases, the disease can cause encephalitis, a potentially life-threatening inflammation of the brain.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis of Kemerovo tickborne viral fever is based on the patient's symptoms and history of exposure to ticks in an area where the disease is known to occur. Laboratory tests can confirm the diagnosis by detecting the presence of the Kemerovo virus in the patient's blood.
Treatment
There is no specific treatment for Kemerovo tickborne viral fever. Treatment is supportive and aims to relieve symptoms. This may include rest, fluids, and medication to reduce fever and pain. In severe cases, hospitalization may be required.
Prevention
Prevention of Kemerovo tickborne viral fever involves avoiding tick bites. This can be achieved by wearing long-sleeved shirts and long pants when in areas where ticks are common, using insect repellent, and checking for ticks after being outdoors. Vaccination against the disease is currently not available.
