History
King Soopers was founded in 1947 by Lloyd J. King and his family in Arvada, Colorado. The name "King Soopers" was chosen to convey the idea of a "super" market. The chain quickly expanded throughout the Denver metropolitan area and beyond.
In 1983, King Soopers became a part of the Kroger Company, one of the largest supermarket chains in the United States. This acquisition allowed King Soopers to benefit from Kroger's extensive resources and distribution networks.
