Lee Kiefer (born June 15, 1994) is an American fencer who competes in the foil discipline. She is a three-time Olympian and the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in individual foil.

Early life and education

Lee Kiefer was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and raised in Lexington, Kentucky. She attended Paul Laurence Dunbar High School and later graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in biology. Kiefer is also a medical student at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine.

Fencing career

Kiefer began fencing at a young age, inspired by her father, who was a former fencer. She trained at the Bluegrass Fencers' Club under the guidance of coach Amgad Khazbak. Kiefer quickly rose through the ranks in the national and international fencing scene.

National achievements

Kiefer has won multiple titles at the USA Fencing National Championships, establishing herself as one of the top foil fencers in the country. She has also been a dominant force in the NCAA Fencing Championships, representing the University of Notre Dame.

International achievements

Kiefer has represented the United States in several Fencing World Championships, earning multiple medals. She competed in the 2012, 2016, and 2020 Summer Olympics. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Kiefer made history by winning the gold medal in individual foil, becoming the first American woman to achieve this feat.

Personal life

Lee Kiefer is married to fellow fencer Gerek Meinhardt, who is also an Olympian and a member of the U.S. national fencing team. The couple met through their shared passion for fencing and often train together.
