American photographer, musician, and animal rights activist (1941–1998)



Linda Louise McCartney (née Eastman; September 24, 1941 – April 17, 1998) was an American photographer, musician, and animal rights activist. She was married to Paul McCartney of The Beatles.

Early Life

Linda McCartney was born in New York City to Lee Eastman, a prominent entertainment lawyer, and Louise Sara Lindner Eastman. She grew up in Scarsdale, New York, and attended Scarsdale High School. She later studied at the University of Arizona, where she majored in art history.

Photography Career

Linda McCartney began her career as a photographer in the mid-1960s. She became known for her portraits of musicians, including Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, and The Beatles. Her work was published in magazines such as Rolling Stone and Life.

Marriage to Paul McCartney

Linda met Paul McCartney in 1967 at a club in London. They married on March 12, 1969, and had four children: Heather, Mary, Stella, and James. Linda became a member of Paul's post-Beatles band, Wings, where she played keyboards and sang backing vocals.

Animal Rights Activism

Linda McCartney was a passionate animal rights activist. She was a vegetarian and promoted vegetarianism through her cookbooks and the Linda McCartney Foods line. She was also involved with organizations such as PETA and the Vegetarian Society.

Death

Linda McCartney died of breast cancer on April 17, 1998, in Tucson, Arizona. Her death was widely mourned, and she is remembered for her contributions to photography, music, and animal rights.

Legacy

Linda McCartney's legacy continues through her photography, music, and activism. The Linda McCartney Centre, a cancer treatment center in Liverpool, was named in her honor. Her family continues to promote her vegetarian food line and support animal rights causes.
