Lotay Tshering

Lotay Tshering (born 10 May 1969) is a Bhutanese politician and surgeon who has been serving as the Prime Minister of Bhutan since November 2018. He is a member of the Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) political party.

Early Life and Education

Lotay Tshering was born in Daga, Bhutan. He completed his early education in Bhutan before pursuing higher studies in medicine. He graduated from the Mymensingh Medical College in Bangladesh and later specialized in urology at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.

Medical Career

Before entering politics, Lotay Tshering had a distinguished career as a surgeon. He worked at the Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital in Thimphu, where he specialized in urology. His contributions to the medical field in Bhutan have been widely recognized, and he is known for his dedication to improving healthcare services in the country.

Political Career

Lotay Tshering entered politics in 2013 when he joined the Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa. Although the party did not win the elections that year, he continued to be an active member. In the 2018 elections, the DNT won a majority of the seats in the National Assembly of Bhutan, and Lotay Tshering was elected as the Prime Minister.
