Malibu Comics was an American comic book publisher active in the late 1980s and early 1990s. It was founded in 1986 by Dave Olbrich, Tom Mason, and Chris Ulm. Malibu Comics is best known for its Ultraverse line of superhero comics.

History

Malibu Comics was established in 1986 and initially focused on publishing creator-owned titles. The company gained prominence by publishing titles from popular creators and licensing properties from other media. In 1992, Malibu launched the Ultraverse, a shared universe of superhero characters, which included titles such as Prime, Hardcase, and The Strangers.

In 1994, Malibu Comics was acquired by Marvel Comics. The acquisition was partly motivated by Malibu's advanced computer coloring technology, which Marvel sought to integrate into its own production processes. Following the acquisition, many of Malibu's titles were canceled, and the Ultraverse was eventually discontinued.
