Metabolic Age (pronunciation: meh-tuh-bol-ik eyj) is a term used in the field of health and fitness to describe the state of a person's metabolism relative to their chronological age.

Etymology

The term "Metabolic Age" is derived from the words "metabolic", which comes from the Greek word "metabole" meaning change, and "age", which comes from the Old French "aage".

Definition

Metabolic Age is a comparative age against which one's metabolic rate can be measured. If a person's metabolic age is lower than their actual age, it means their metabolism is functioning more efficiently than average.
