Metipranolol

Metipranolol (pronounced: meh-ti-pran-oh-lol) is a non-selective Beta blocker used in the treatment of Glaucoma and Hypertension. It is a derivative of Propranolol and is known to reduce intraocular pressure by reducing the production of aqueous humor in the eye.

Etymology

The term 'Metipranolol' is derived from the parent compound Propranolol. The prefix 'Meti-' is a modification of 'Methyl', indicating the presence of a methyl group in the compound.

Usage

Metipranolol is primarily used in the treatment of Glaucoma, a condition characterized by increased pressure within the eye. It is also used to manage Hypertension, or high blood pressure. Metipranolol works by blocking the action of certain natural chemicals in the body (such as epinephrine) that affect the heart and blood vessels. This effect reduces heart rate, blood pressure, and strain on the heart.
