Michael Keaton
American actor
Michael John Douglas (born September 5, 1951), known professionally as Michael Keaton, is an American actor. He is best known for his roles in comedy and drama films, as well as for his portrayal of the DC Comics character Batman in the films Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992).
Early life
Keaton was born in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, the youngest of seven children in a working-class family. He attended Kent State University, where he studied speech.
Career
Early work
Keaton began his career in television, appearing in various sitcoms and variety shows. He gained recognition for his role in the sitcom Working Stiffs (1979) and the comedy film Night Shift (1982).
Breakthrough and success
Keaton's breakthrough role came in the 1983 film Mr. Mom. He continued to build his career with roles in Johnny Dangerously (1984) and Beetlejuice (1988), directed by Tim Burton.
Batman
In 1989, Keaton was cast as Batman in Tim Burton's Batman. Despite initial skepticism, his performance was widely praised, and he reprised the role in Batman Returns (1992).
Later career
Keaton's career saw a resurgence with his role in the 2014 film Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), for which he received critical acclaim and a Golden Globe Award. He has since appeared in films such as Spotlight (2015), Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), and The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020).
Personal life
Keaton was married to actress Caroline McWilliams from 1982 to 1990, and they have one son, Sean Douglas, a songwriter and record producer.
