Migraleve

From WikiMD's medical encyclopedia

Migraleve is a brand of over-the-counter medication used to treat the symptoms of migraine. It is produced by the pharmaceutical company Johnson & Johnson and is available in most pharmacies and drugstores.

Composition

Migraleve contains three active ingredients: paracetamol, codeine, and buccastem. Paracetamol is a common painkiller, codeine is a mild opioid used to treat moderate to severe pain, and buccastem is an antiemetic used to prevent nausea and vomiting.

Usage

Migraleve is used to alleviate the symptoms of a migraine. The recommended dosage is two tablets initially, followed by one tablet every four hours if necessary. It is not recommended to exceed six tablets in a 24-hour period.

Side Effects

Like all medications, Migraleve can cause side effects. Common side effects include drowsiness, constipation, and dry mouth. More serious side effects can include addiction (due to the codeine content), liver damage (from excessive paracetamol), and extrapyramidal symptoms (from the buccastem).

Precautions

Before taking Migraleve, it is important to consult with a healthcare professional if you have any pre-existing conditions such as liver or kidney disease, a history of substance abuse, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
