The Minnesota Vikings are a professional American football team based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They are a member of the National Football League (NFL) and compete in the league's NFC North division. The team was established in 1960 and began play as an expansion team in 1961.
History
The Minnesota Vikings were founded by a group of five businessmen known as the "Gang of Ten." The team was awarded an NFL franchise on January 28, 1960. The Vikings played their first game on September 17, 1961, against the Chicago Bears, winning 37-13.
Team Colors and Mascot
The team's colors are purple, gold, and white. The Vikings' mascot is named Viktor the Viking, who is a popular figure at games and community events.
Stadium
The Vikings currently play their home games at U.S. Bank Stadium, which is located in downtown Minneapolis. The stadium opened in 2016 and has a seating capacity of approximately 66,860.
